Maye Musk , the mother of billionaire X/Twitter owner Elon Musk , complained to President Joe Biden on Wednesday after the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) opted not to give Musk’s Starlink nearly $900 million in government subsidies.
It was revealed on Tuesday that the FCC would not give Starlink nearly $900 million in subsidies to expand internet services across rural America, with the Commission claiming that Starlink had “failed to demonstrate that it could deliver the promised service.”
After FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr protested the decision and accused his agency of joining a “growing list of federal agencies engaging in the regulatory harassment of Elon Musk” with Biden’s approval, Musk’s mother also complained to Biden in a post on X.
“I am the mother of @elonmusk. His goal is to make this world a better place. @POTUS wants to stop him,” she wrote . “Have you any idea how furious I am? People in other countries are proud of Elon and do not understand the US President’s motive. Please tell me how I should answer them.”
In his dissenting statement on the FCCs’ decision, Carr accused Biden of giving “federal agencies a greenlight to go after” Musk after he purchased Twitter and “used it to voice his own political and ideological views without a filter.”
Carr wrote, “Today’s decision certainly fits the Biden Administration’s pattern of regulatory harassment. Indeed, the Commission’s decision today to revoke a 2020 award of $885 million to Elon Musk’s Starlink–an award that Starlink secured after agreeing to provide high-speed Internet service to over 64,000 homes and businesses across 35 states–is a decision that cannot be explained by any objective application of law, facts, or policy.”
