JAKARTA - Indonesia's crude oil production rose slightly in April from March while condensate output was stable, an official at the country's energy watchdog said on Monday.
The Upstream Oil and Gas Supervisory Body (BPMIGAS) official said also that production was expected to be stable in May.
"Oil contractors have promised to do their best to keep or increase output," he said.
Crude oil production rose to 825,800 barrels per day (bpd) in April from 821,600 bpd in March, while condensate output was unchanged at 140,000 bpd.
With more production needed to fuel a buoyant economy, Indonesia has offered new exploration rights and incentives to investors including more favourable tax treatment and production splits, but some industry players have said the incentives are not enough.
A recent survey by PricewaterhouseCoopers listed multiple challenges facing the industry, including corruption, bureaucratic interference, infrastructure problems, environmental issues and a lack of investment capital.
Major global oil contractors working in Indonesia include Exxon Mobil, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, and France's Total.
Following are monthly Indonesian crude and condensate output figures, with volumes in barrels per day:
Crude Condensate Total
April – 825,800 140,000 965,800
March – 821,600 140,000 961,600
February – 824,100 135,000 959,100
January – 815,200 130,000 945,200
