Uganda Won’t Swap Oil for Russian Fighter Jets, New Vision Says

By Fred Ojambo

April 7 (Bloomberg) -- Uganda won’t swap oil for six Russian Su-30 fighter jets because no Russian companies are currently prospecting for crude in the East African nation, New Vision reported, citing Defense Minister Crispus Kiyonga.

Kiyonga also declined to say whether the country intends to buy the aircraft, because the information is classified, the Kampala-based newspaper said.

Vedomosti, a Moscow-based newspaper, reported on April 5 that Russia agreed to sell six of the warplanes to Uganda and 16 to Algeria in a deal worth a combined $1.2 billion.
