Jonathan Set To Sign Nigeria Content Bill Into Law

By Chris Paul Otaigbe

THE Nigeria Content Bill, otherwise known as Local Content Bill, was last Thursday, April 1, 2010, passed on to the Acting President Goodluck Jonathan for assent.

A source at the National Assembly, who disclosed this to The Guardian, at the weekend, said the Senate and the House of Representatives had, few weeks ago, harmonised and passed the bill. He noted that the expected presidential assent by Jonathan would signal the full activation of the Law that would empower Nigerians to profitably participate in the oil and gas industry.

According to the source, "the assent of the Acting President will be significant in a lot of ways to Nigeria, the Acting President and Nigerians in general.

"It will be President Jonathan's first bill; and for Nigerians it will be a major breakthrough for them as it will mean more business and greater job opportunities for our teeming unemployed youths to have something to do. For Nigeria, it is most likely the beginning of our foray, pragmatically speaking, into the world of industrialisation."
