HBJ readers: Houston likes offshore drilling!

It’s no surprise that in the Energy Capital of the World, Houston Business Journal readers would overwhelmingly support President Barack Obama’s recent decision to open new areas to offshore drilling.

Of the nearly 600 responses, 78 percent answered “yes” to the question, “Do you agree with Obama’s decision to open new areas to offshore drilling?”

Thirteen percent responded with “no.”

Among those who chose to leave a comment, the most liked was from Robert B., who said: “If you are knowledgeable about the oil business you know that Obama did not open anything up to drilling. In fact he in his own devious way recycled some of Bush’s prior decision (sic) on drilling. Obama’s ideology is such that he could never do anything to help America become less dependent on foreign oil. He is the same sort of friend to the oil industry as he is to the coal industry.”

In light of Obama’s decision, HBJ also reached out to the oil and gas experts who gave their thoughts on the matter.
