DUBAI: Kuwait has set out a fresh strategy to raise oil output to four million barrels per day by 2020, and gas output to one billion cubic feet per day by 2016, the country’s oil minister has said.

According to Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah, Kuwait’s oil and gas strategy provides for drawing and training national cadres to manage oil operations both at home and abroad to involve them in national development, the minister said.

Sheikh Ahmad was addressing the 9th Arab Energy Conference in Doha.

He also voiced Kuwait’s keenness to adopt the call for joint Arab cooperation in diverse areas, including oil, recalling that his country had hammered out an agreement with Saudi Arabia and Libya in 1968 for establishing the Organisation of Arab Petroleu m Exporting Countries (OAPEC), based in Kuwait.

Kuwait’s oil sector is seeking to reduce gas emissions produced out of industrial operations and to develop and set up oil projects that meet necessary environment criteria and conditions and produce clean and environmentally friendly fuel, the minister said. — PTI
